ITA rule] Rebuttal against Manny Diaz's twits

He's not really answering my questions there, so here we go;

Manny Diaz ‏@CoachMannyDiaz · Jan 30
@fantic7 @BUScrivano @ITATennis Yes. Not true. If you want to keep having programs cut we keep everything the same. #notgonnahappen

Typical scare tactic. #Notgonnahappen

Hellman just got renovated. Think they'll cut those tennis programs?

Then coach Diaz might say, "What about the smaller programs?"

Yeah, about the smaller programs. You think changing the rule will save those? Wake up!

Say if they don't belong to Big 5 networks. After all Coach Diaz and their ilk are aiming for TV contract, right? Big 5 Conference TV contracts!! So what's the deuce is the use if you're not IN the Big 5 anyway??  They don't have TV, so????!!!

-------------------------

Manny Diaz ‏@CoachMannyDiaz · Jan 30 @fantic7 @ITATennis Exposure, Relevance, having a more marketable and exciting and fan friendly product will.

Chanting inane 'mantras' won't make it happen lol. Again, #notgonnahappen

The gall here.  Exposure? They just CUT doubles. Yeah the TIME exposure is drastically reduced!!

'Having a more marketable and exciting and fan friendly product'? That's DOUBLES!!! I strongly urge coach Diaz and their ilk to visit IW. They need to get educated, lol. Try to get IN to those Doubles matches.  So they could wake up from their delusion!!

I mean, Stanford vs Princeton and SMC doubles matches were stopped a mere inches from the conclusion because of the Clinch rule!!  So how is THAT exciting, AND fan friendly?

What, waving a red flag or a paddle at deciding points is exciting?  I laugh.

That was easy.  The more I ruminate on those inane or duplicitous arguments by those charlatans, the more I become incensed lol. Do they think we fans are stupid?  Do they think the students are mere guinea pigs, experimental subjects? Blatantly ignoring the student polls and all.

I'm not joking here. Heads should roll.  They deserve it, lol.

#savecollegedoubles

P.S. The more I think about this black comedy, the more I become disillusioned. Also Pro stars making astronomical money while lower ranked players struggling to make ends meet, awarding half the prize money as singles to doubles teams...so fucked up in so many ways.
And USTA is even rumored to consider messing up with the juniors scoring system.
I'm just becoming mucho disillusioned about this whole tennis biz..

Eaton Canyon trekking!

So after 'berating' ITA and coach Diaz for selling the doubles down the river lol, to cool off(joke, I was of course cool as a cucumber!), took myself to Eaton, to 'commune' with Nature!

Yeah, much more cost effective than going to tennis matches, and it's even healthy!  Took a more steep route so it was quite an effort to reach certain heights.

Some Asians were decked in a semi-pro mountaineering attire lol, when all of us others wore casual. I bet they were Koreans, they're more materialistic than even the Americans!

I just wore jeans, IW visor, light hood t, and took the Sony point and shoot, water bottle, and mini binocular in the hope of spotting...birds!!  (I did say that I'm considering taking up birding as an alternative to watching Div. I WNCAA tennis matches!)

Yeah, should check those books out, West California? Bird guides, by NG, Peterson, Sibley..unfortunately only spotted a shy couple on the way up, which quickly escaped to the opposite side of the bush lol, so couldn't really spot them.
On the way down, spotted a couple of hummingbirds, a solo bird flying rapidly, and quite a loud chirping uttered by an invisible bird, that's all lol.

Of course, if you're really 'serious' about birding, you should just visit Arboretum! There peacocks abound, so you can take pic of any of those strutting about lol! And there are other species as well, so it's well worth a visit. I discontinued my yearly subscription, but it's free on the 3rd Tuesday.

LA Zoo Aviary is ok as well.

If you fortunately live in NY, or course you should take a tour of the Park. Heard it's fantastic, and the guided bird tour is well worth a try, as I found on the movie Birders: The Central Park Effect .

Here are some pics!

Parking lot was chock full! Luckily I parked on the street
 Let's Gooo~
The dried riverbed! I remember precariously crossing those stone steps across the river..indeed, the draught is severe nowadays..

Yup it was quite steep...so had trouble going down, so took my time. Heard many mountaineering accidents occur when they come down, too.

 LA Downtown is just visible...!

Haha, correct. Waterfall is DOWN there, not UP here.

They said no bikes...lol. Later a woman was seen furiously cycling down..!

Bikes are for what? fags? hard to read..!

I think this was the bush where the birds escaped to the opposite side..!

 3 dogs..!

Curious...! Is it a portent?? For the fate of doubles!!!

Bleak...just like the current doubles situation!

 Visitors hurrying back..almost 4:30

Such an active snake, a rare sight indeed!

Way back to the street!

I'll next time post pics when I visit the Arboretum! Is this the beginning of the new hobby...!! Lol.

Yup, time to enjoy a more worthwhile hobby!

Boycotting NTI as well, won't post anything about it.
6 dbls games :tape:

ITA rule] Weird ITA poll; they should conduct a poll on the New Rule!!!!

on their homepage;

When I get a short ball and my opponent is at the net, I...

I do hope they 'save' the big and neccessary one for the last, just before Dec. 11 Cabinet decision;

"Do you like(prefer) the new ITA proposed rule, Yes/No?"

Now THAT would be VERY interesting, don't you think? Maybe Cabinet will see that poll and incorporate into their decision!!!

But;

Will ITA DARE to shoot their feet with such an 'unwise' poll??!

And if they do, AND if the responsive is overwhelmingly negative, will they manipulate the poll result!!!

I love consipracy theories, don't you? ;)

Katie Swan is considering college!!

That cute Katie, EB finalist and who just advanced to AO juniors final, said she's still considering college, according to BBC! She's a LTA girl, not a USTA girl though.

She's coached by Wichita St...!!!! Will she go there?!!! Haha.

But, likely she might turn pro if the ITA proposal gets passed...!!! Maybe THIS is what USTA intended all the time?!! You know USTA loves to poach top juniors from college...!

2015 USC def. PEP 4-3 at PEP

Didn't go there.

Scores from PEP website;
USC hasn't updated anything, website, twitter, facebook..fail :sobbing:

USC vs Pepperdine
Jan 30, 2015 at Malibu, Calif. (Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center)
#14 USC 4, #30 Pepperdine 3

Singles
1. #41 Giuliana Olmos (USC-W) def. #17 Lorraine Guillermo (PEP) 6-1, 2-6, 6-4

Gugu, better than the SW R result! :worship:
As I said, Gugu should play #1 :)

2. #44 Zoe Scandalis (USC-W) def. Laura Gulbe (PEP) 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4)

Wow, according to PEP Laura actually led 5-2 in the 3rd!!!

Hmmm...maybe Zoe should play #3 and Meredith, #2? haha.

3. A.Runglerdkriangkrai (PEP) def. #48 Gabby Smith (USC-W) 6-2, 6-4

"It was only the sophomore’s third-ever win over a ranked opponent at the collegiate level."

4. Michaela Capannolo (PEP) def. #45 Madison Westby (USC-W) 6-3, 6-3

"At #45, Westby goes down as the highest ranked opponent Capannolo has gotten the better of during her Pepperdine career."

5. Christine Maddox (PEP) def. #98 Gabriella DeSimone (USC-W) 6-0, 6-2

What happened here, didn't Gabi win in 2 at Marks :hysteric:

6. Meredith Xepoleas (USC-W) def. Matea Cutura (PEP) 6-2, retired

Doubles
1. #14 Giuliana Olmos/Zoe Scandalis (USC-W) def. Lorraine Guillermo/A.Runglerdkriangkrai (PEP) 6-4
2. Gabby Smith/Madison Westby (USC-W) def. Michaela Capannolo/Christine Maddox (PEP) 7-5
3. Zoe Katz/Gabriella DeSimone (USC-W) def. Matea Cutura/Laura Gulbe (PEP) 6-4

Match Notes:
USC 4-0; National ranking #14
Pepperdine 1-2; National ranking #30
Order of finish: Doubles (3,1,2); Singles (6,5,4,3,1,2)

Now what?  I think USC did well to rest Sabs though. It's a long season...

ITA rule] So who did the poll? Kriese vs Diaz

Churck Kriese;

• In ITA’s own poll of 2014 spring, 81% of college tennis players voted to not change singles and 85% voted to not change doubles. These votes were ignored. The significance of this poll was not acknowledged.

Manny Diaz@CoachMannyDiaz 8 hours ago
Cabinet did the poll. They haven't released results.

What's going on? I thought Cabinet advised ITA to do a poll to students last September or something. Why does Cabinet have to do ITA's job? Did they conduct a separate poll? Weird....?

Who's right here? Mr. Kriese or Mr. Diaz??

P.S. I'll keep you guys updated on this issue, so far Mr. Diaz hasn't responded to my Twitter inquiry.

2015 Stanford def. SMC 5-2

I wasn't sure if I will ever watch SMC again, especially if the proposed ITA rule gets passed on Feb. 11 at the NCAA Cabinet, so watched this match via Stanford webcam.

Actually they only visit once to So. Cal, according to their website;

Sun, Feb 15 San Diego State - - San Diego, Calif. 12:00 p.m.

Scores from Stanford website;

No. 8 Stanford 5, No. 44 Saint Mary’s 2

DOUBLES
1) No. 6 Davidson/Zhao (STAN) d. Kaur/McCord (SMC) 6-2

Kaur should be fined, like those Seahawks committing errors lol. Like how many shots did she shank? MP was her DF too. When those idiots 'lament' the poor quality of Div. I women college tennis at Zootennis; these players have an 'obligation' to play, at least, decently.
God...was exasperated at those endless errors!  Was that the play of the #1 dbls player of a rather highly ranked Div. I tennis team????!! Soviet(Stalin or Mao) style self criticism session is needed! :p
Not only that, Jana also shanked an easy poach to nicely set up MP lol. She actually volleyed pretty well throughout the match, though.

I heard Princeton #1 dbls also committed endless errors yesterday, haha.

And guys, AT DEUCE(deciding pt due to no ad rule), THE RED FLAGS WENT UP!!

MATADOR!! It was so hilarious; 'I SEE~RED'!!!  Yeah, we're like bulls, in the bullfighting arena!!!

2) No. 12 Doyle/Tsay (STAN) vs. Flores/Mary-Anne Jessup (SMC) abandoned

Caro lol, DFing at will   'Abandoned'? Come on, why not post the exact score befitting Stanford?!!   SMC were actually 2 points away from winning the match when the clinch rules applied!!!!    Absolutely hilarious.
Naturally twitted this to coach Diaz, Ben Rothenberg, Tom Perrotta and SI magazine! :)

Jessup once made a bowing gesture after Dani made an angled fh winner, haha. Ellen sank some volleys.

3) Hardebeck/Kostas (STAN) d. Manji/Pawid (SMC) 6-4

Order of Finish: 1, 3

SINGLES

1) No. 4 Carol Zhao (STAN) d. No. 32 Danielle Flores (SMC) 7-5, 6-3

Dani, befitting the #1!!  Climbed up the greasy pole, now at the top. :)  Great offensive ability, as shown in dbls as well, could attack, especially in and out.  Many later went wide though.

2) No. 12 Taylor Davidson (STAN) d. Jana McCord (SMC) 7-5, 6-1

Jana! So nice to see her play #2 and play decently(at least the 1st set!) as well!! I fondly remember her overwhelming Gabby Andrews at ITF Claremont with her massive drives...after that her form went a nosedive lol, so I was rather concerned, but I guess she got her form back! You go girl. :)  Once after 3 fh bombs, made a fh drive volley winner lol, not a shocker at all!
But like Dani, tended to overhit a lot lol.   I think Taylor served rather well, or Jana couldn't return well.

3) No. 13 Caroline Doyle (STAN) d. No. 123 Catherine Leduc (SMC) 6-0, 6-1

Hmmm, was Cat like this as always? Mostly retrieved, so Caro had a rather comfortable match.

4) Jamie Pawid (SMC) d. Krista Hardbeck (STAN) 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (13)

Oh Krista...   Didn't watch the lower position matches though, including this.

5) Ellen Tsay (STAN) d. No. 94 Kareena Manji (SMC) 6-2, 6-2

6) Parminder Kaur (SMC) d. Lindsey Kostas (STAN) 7-6 (1), 6-4

Order of Finish: 3, 5, 2, 1, 4, 6

So, not bad at all. Could be a real threat to PEPP, especially since Cutura is sidelined due to her foot injury.
Why didn't Emma Critser play though? Hope she can be operational.

ITA rule] private/public persona

Had fun hounding coaches Diaz, Scrivano and ITA as well(but hounding is what journalists do! To get to that truth or scoop lol! 'The truth will set you free'...and famous? Haha)!

We should differentiate between personal and public persona.

Like, Clint Eastwood generously hiring Lefty actors yet avowing to kill Michael Moore for exposing USA's gun culture lol(similar to Charles Heston I'd say). Also that bizarre chatting with an empty chair during the election season!

Adolf Hitler.  Secretaries actually fondly remember him as a very nice person!! Leni Riefenstahl too, worshipped him. He's the most famous vegetarian as well!

But is he known for these nice traits? Nope.

Same to the ITA rule change endorsers. I'm sure most are very nice people. But publicly, regarding this issue, I have to say, they should be regarded as DOUBLES KILLERS. Sadly.

Some might object that they are in fact visionaries?

Vision?  Putting dbls first was a visionary act. Randy Bloemendaal emphasizing the individual aspect of College tennis(to which I agree; college Dual is just an aggregate of individual matches! I don't think there's any need to revamp the structure though, the Fall is essentially an Individual season anyway, what with 2 of 3 Individual Slams being held) is, too.

But axing 2 dbls games, and moreover imposing further restrictions by applying No Ad AND clinch rule? That's just systematic MURDER folks, not a visionary act at all!

ITA rule] I've decided to reactivate my twitter

Of course to expose this silly ITA proposal

1. Ask Coach Diaz and ITA whether killing dbls , abandoning #1 Dbls match Stanford vs Princeton at TB 6-6 enhances the fan experience and grows the game :tape: Should add coach Scrivano as well.

2. Twit to various news media for an in depth exposé on this rule change comedy and saga

Should be fun!

Attack Doyle's serve

After watching my video

So, jumped from 6 to 3, not bad. That match against Robin at WAATC was a battle of equals! Could dominate with her huge drives!

But. Was her serve this bad? Same against Wiley at Freeman.
I thought she was a better server than Christina Makarova? Haha. All I remember about her match against Loeb at the National is her loopy drives being attacked by Jamie..

So, against her, offense is the best defense. Can't allow her to pounce on weak balls, you know? Gugu once successfully attacked Caro's serve in the video.
Like that.

ITA rule] Exactly how many matches will be televised?

Mr. Finney reminded me of it at Marks, so checked it out:

Stanford home matches: 2
USC home matches: 3
UCLA home matches: 4

So, they're killing doubles for that? Less than 5 home matches?

Wake up, from your delusion!!!!

You think somehow that would translate to a dramatic surge of attendance?

Slams attracts some viewers, so does it lead to a surge of regular tour attendance?

Please get your grip on reality!!

Or, if you already know this, don't lie about growing the sport and attracting fans bulshit, and just admit that it's all about money!!

Either they're extremely obtuse, or are devious hypocrites.

Notre Dame's new uniform

is terrible.

http://instagram.com/p/ydhIUOi3i8/?modal=true

It's like..dunno WM's or something. Why did they have to change to Under Armour lol. Adidas UND uniform was one of my favorites! Haha.

Well I guess it's still better than USC's...! Nike is terrible, heard AO ones are crap, too lol.

And I'm worried; about those two Brooke and Mary.

Brooke hasn't played? Why..she seems fine in the pic, pale as usual!

And Mary, why has she gotten so thin? I've noticed that for a while..

Allison is playing #4, not bad..! ;)

ITA rule] The idiotic doubles clinch rule

From OSU website:

West Virginia vs Ohio State
Jan 29, 2015 at Columbus, Ohio
(Varsity Tennis Center)
#31 Ohio State 7, West Virginia 0

Singles competition
1. #86 Anna Sanford (OSU) def. Kaja Mrgole (WVU) 6-1, 6-3
2. Gabriella De Santis (OSU) def. Hailey Barret (WVU) 6-2, 6-1
3. Sandy Niehaus (OSU) def. Lyn Yuen Choo (WVU) 6-2, 6-1
4. Miho Kowase (OSU) def. Ikttesh Chahal (WVU) 6-1, 7-6 (7-5)
5. #71 Olivia Sneed (OSU) def. Habiba Shaker (WVU) 6-3, 7-5
6. Grainne O'Neill (OSU) def. Yvon Martinez (WVU) 6-1, 6-0

Doubles competition
1. Anna Sanford/Grainne O'Neill (OSU) def. Kaja Mrgole/Ikttesh Chahal (WVU) 6-3
2. #26 Gabriella De Santis/Sandy Niehaus (OSU) def. Hailey Barret/Habiba Shaker (WVU) 5-4
3. Olivia Sneed/Miho Kowase (OSU) def. Lyn Yuen Choo/Yvon Martinez (WVU) 6-2

Match Notes:
West Virginia 0-1
Ohio State 1-0; National ranking #31
Order of finish: Doubles (3,1); Singles (6,3,2,1,5,4)
T-2:17 A-51

Brooke Austin is not the only Freshman to play singles #1, here's Anna, who has defeated Hardebeck at the National and played No.6? for Midwest at the Team National!

Sneed playing #3 doubles is a....luxury!

But what I want to question is...

#2 doubles? 5-4?  Why do they have to stop???!  Don't dbls teams need ranking points as well? Especially when an upset is possible like the below match:

Stanford vs Princeton.

(Stanford still hasn't updated their website, while Princeton just updated theirs. USC decisively wins the contest!)

http://www.goprincetontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=46534&SPID=4229&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=209869301&DB_OEM_ID=10600

You're joking, right?

#2 clinched, so they just abandon the #1 match? When it was Tiebreak 6-6???!!!

Isn't this extremely silly?
Like how much more time will it take to decide the #1 match anyway???

Does this even 'enhance' the 'fan experience'?  'Grow the game'? Pshaw!!!!

AND they finished the singles.

Does this make ANY sense?  Particularly since their logic is that the match should be shorter for TV?!

Lol!!!!!  Let's have a good laugh at ITA!!

P.S. You see, systematically destroying doubles, that's the only logical explanation: otherwise, how can you explain this bizzare and idiotic new ITA rule?

Jessica Failla wins MD singles WC for Sunrise AZ ITF

Just found out!! Beating Ena...! Interesting!

ITA rule] Probably most coaches are..

Especially Big 5 conference coaches, who have a possbility of receiving 'mannas', in the form of TV contract money;

Being opportunistic (or to put a more positive spin on it, 'prudent'), 'weathering the storm', see where the wind blows..

And profit.

A wise course...!

Historically, Robespierre was pretty silent in the early crucial stages of the French Revolution; he only became prominent in the latter stages.

ITA rule] Will the Big 5 Conference break off from the rest?

Certainly possible, since they're grasping for (TV) money, claiming to 'save College Tennis'. Look at all those main endorsers of  'Change'; primarily from the Big 5 Conferences, especially, Men's team coaches.

This could actually be an opportunity for other Conference's schools, such as WCC, Ivy league, etc. Disaster Marketing, as I've mentioned;

"We play REAL tennis, not that mockery of 6 game doubles with no ad, etc."

Should be their marketing slogan!  Applies to Div. III schools as well.

Of course most juniors and their parents might think this way and head to Big 5 anyway;

"Who care's if 2 doubles games are chopped? I've only cared for free college tuition, it's not like I'm going to turn pro anyway. Anyhow, I'm going to be....on TV!!"

Lol.

As you can see, Trice is beatable right now. And with Scholl and Makarova sidelined? Perfect chance for the opponents to take advantage.  Will the Blue Devils be able to fend them off?
I think Sam Harris at #4 will be important, but we'll see.  And we'll see how Annie does at #6.

Meets NU, Stanford and UF..but UF is higher ranked anyway. And of course NIIC opponents.

Other than that, actually a nice schedule for Duke, since March is not too brutal for them. If Scholl and Makarova can compete against Virginia at Mar. 22..who knows?
