6. J.C. Aragone (UVa) vs. Florin Bragusi (OU) 6-7(5), 4-6, 1-0 DNF
Order of Finish: 5,3,4,2

UVA winning is no surprise at all. One could even say that they underachieved, since they have recruited the best American players for years, comparable to Stanford women(I would say that USC overachieved).
Just look at the roster: Wiersholm didn't even play!! Can you imagine this scenario at any other team? Lol.

There's no..drama there, like Vandy women. The most talented team won, a predictable outcome.

Virginia 2015-6 roster

From their website

Danielle Collins5-9SRSt. Petersburg, Fla./Home Schooled/A Beka Academy
Julia Elbaba5-5SROyster Bay, N.Y./Laurel Springs
Maci Epstein5-7SRWinter Park, Fla./Lake Highland Prep
Cassie Mercer5-10SOHuntington, W.Va./Huntington
Skylar Morton5-8SRBethesda, Md./Laurel Springs
Stephanie Nauta5-8SRGalveston, Texas/Laurel Springs
Taylor Wingo5-6SRNewport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy

Nobody is leaving, I see(Elbaba and Collins are playing Oracle as well).
Look at that, 6 seniors lol. And what a lineup.
It would be a pity if they can't win either NIIC or NCAA. Their roster is too good.

And this begs the question: Who'll succeed those seniors?

3 are confirmed: Chang, Susi, and Kelley. They need at least 2 more.

Vandy's 3 Blue Chip players

They may not have had superstars like Anderson, Loeb or Austin, but Vandy was actually a very solid team.

For example they had 3 TRN Blue Chip players, in Altick, Colton and Campbell; and they contributed mightily for the team.

Hamlin and Ta

Did Ellyse withdraw? I thought she was playing the National, too bad.

Katie Ta is playing quite well recently. I think I saw her for the 1st time when she lost to Abi Desiatnikov. Chose Brown.

2015 National G16 sgls draws

So, the biggest dark horses Hewitt(17) and Desiatnikov(UNSEEDED AND LOOMING), who can certainly win it all(Abi is the perennial #1 of her class, and lost in a very tight match against UNC recruit Alexa Graham last year methink, in the same tournament), got the misfortune of those high seeds who were assigned in the same quarter lol.

1st section;

Yes, Hewitt was assigned in the same section as  #1 Subhash lol. Possible Rd of 32 blockbuster between those two!

Belaya and Reddy are two good players, but I think Hewitt will still advance to meet Subhash..

Bottom half; Sydney Jones, Bianco, Ann Li..possibly Li will advance but we'll see.

2nd section;

Johnson's section is relatively easy methink. Of course Hurley, Kessler, Alda, Kennedy, Dunleavy, Campana are all good opponents. But Johnson almost defeated Hewitt at EB, so..

3rd section;

Likewise for #3 Lairmore. Ferrari, Nothaft, Muljat, Haynes, Zhao all good players. Is Owensby highly ranked?  Anyway Lairmore in fact has beaten Hewitt at EB lol, and she also has beaten Coppoc the year before methink? Just too wily.

4rd section;

A rather toughy for #5 Bolton. Expect a long match against Gadalov lol, and then she'll have to meet the winner between Osuigwe and Bridges. O recently defeated Car I believe, to win a tournament.

5th section;

Lemonds, Lim..Too bad Sisti and Van Linge meets so early, and at SDSU, to boot.  Kowalski, Rice, Hand...pretty competitive section.  Possibly Lim and Hand could meet again, but Rice has a huge game.

6th section;

Abi D got assigned to Mossmer section. On the opposite side though, super tough luck for Forbes. Oh in fact, Emma too lol. Abi vs Victoria match could be an absolute blockbuster. Both are legitimate title contenders, in fact.  On the bottom section, Eason will surely test Mossmer.

7th section;

Car vs Meredith possible match, another blockbuster material lol. On the lower part, so many good players, as I've already mentioned. Watch out for Cali Jankowski, who won Winter Nat G14, beating Noel, Zein, Kung and Choy on the way.  Possible match against McQuaid should be a good one. The winner will probably meet the winner of Henry/Brylin.

8th section;

Lorenzini, Angyalosy, Bojczuk..Lorenzini vs Bojczuk is a very promising possible match. On the lower half, Tabachnik will surely test Flores; as I've said before, T recently defeated Alaina Miller lol.

2015 National] Interesting matches on Aug. 2nd

8:30 Jankowski vs Zein
8:30 Sisti vs Van Linge(SDSU, too bad)
10:00 Douglas vs Calton
10:15 Possokhova vs Ulyashchenko
10:30 Chiu vs Dvorak
11:45 Livianu vs Bright
11:45 Peus vs Kurtz
11:45 Bleser vs Maltby(SDSU, too bad)
12:00 Middlebrooks vs Williams (I think M will win though)
12:00 Shin vs Dreyfuss
12:00 Urbinati vs Van Alphen(SDSU, too bad)
12:30 Porter vs Franco

Those bolded 3 matches, really not very good, all practically being played at the same time, ugh. At least hope the courts won't be too far from each other. Can't they be played right next to each other, 3 courts in a row lol.

2015 National G16] Singles 193-224 is brutal

Meredith and Car could meet at the Rd of 32..!
That top half also features marquee match of the 1st day, Lin vs Gevargiz lol. Pity I wouldn't be able to watch it.  Didn't Krykanov did well at Clay.

Jankowski vs Zein possible 2nd round match, both are similarly ranked, and Zein did well at Clay methink. A must see match..!  Cali has tough luck, could meet Riley if she wins that 2nd round match.

The lowest portion has Somer Henry and Anna Brylin.  Overall I think Car will advance from this section, but we'll see how Mad has 'improved' haha.

2015 G18 Team National All Stars

There were such a bewildering array of 'permutations', you can either interpret as match-ups or stacking lol.  Hence, it's rather difficult to nominate a player on a proper position.

Chen/Shibahara, Martinelli/Kalhorn

One would've thought that McCarthy was a shoo-in, but she lost twice, to Hand/Rosca and then in the final against the So. Cal team. The loss to the Middle States team is of course more shocking.

Weissmann/Yee, Branstine/Hart, Milunovich/Rogers, Riley/Smith

So many good #2 teams. Intermountain really excelled in doubles, but that was to be expected, so no surprise there. M/R did lose to W/Y, but they are a very good combo; expect a good showing at SD.
B/H didn't lose one match. Wonder if Car is playing doubles? Shouldn't she team again with Johnson haha.
R/S really impressed me; did everything well.

Probably a Lorenzini team.  Again, Lorenzini/Hewitt could be a holy terror at SD lol. Appel team as well.
Branstine/Lahey won the all-important match in the final

Daavettila, Chi, Aney

Pity Sara and Kaitlyn didn't meet, do hope they meet at SD haha.  Watch out for Chi at SD, but she was very good during Spring anyway.

Shibahara, Hand

Yeah, Clarissa Hand lol. Defeated Rogers in two. True, faced weaker competition than Ena, but still didn't lose a match.

Branstine, Kalhorn(but Nicole only played 2 matches, so eh..). Car even won playing #3, beating Goodman.

Alyvia Jones, Makenna Jones

Maria Smith, Mossmer

MIP: Slaysman, Traxler

2015 G18 Team Nat Final day

The day before yesterday a fox(or a coyote) invaded Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden!! And yesterday spotted a Hooded Oriole there, always a delight to spot that bird. :)

More coaches; Florida State, UCSB, Mizzou, NU(coach Pollard) Patrick back to his bucket hat! Later Amy Yang wore a different colored one too, haha, along with Southern coaches.  I really should thank coach Lester for helping me putting up the parasol at Doesn't he coach Kaitlyn? Maybe I'll see him again at SD.

Improvement from last year; tent at the main court, so good for players.
The umpire chair was gone though :sobbing: Hence couldn't survey various courts comfortably at the same time lol.

MW players arrived late, so Florida vs Texas started earlier.  Hmm, that Florida coach was Audra Cohen? Maybe I should've asked an autograph since she was a former college star player! Currently head coach at North Florida, so she might attend the National for recruiting I guess.

Anyway, back to match;

Texas players wore red t shirts. Chi and Muller didn't play doubles.

Again, so impressed with Karina. So fast, and seems to show a sense of urgency; very aggressive poaching, etc.
And, Janice Shin; I thought she was a heck of an hitter, but in fact she also volleyed very well. They both came up to the net a lot, and could return drives at net so well, mucho impressed.
Chloe once made an overhead behind the baseline lol. Smooth hitting as usual. Alex poached well at times. And later on they also approached the net to pressure the opponents. So despite the Texas team playing terrific tennis(Karina once made a lob winner), the match was tight all the way. MP was an absolute riot, long intense play ending with Shin's volley winner?

Nice disciplined hitting by Susi. Bongart's made some drive misses, but this Texas team, as I've said, is very good; not just power hitting, does everything well, actually. Passing, volleys...almost flawless.

Anna Bright was fired up, haha. Made some volley errors but her net defence was sound. Mbalia hit very well. Chandler's poaching was ridiculous lol, almost like McCarthy's!  Just dominated the net in the middle, poaching at will.  Priya volleyed well, and even aced once. Lobbed well, too. So thought Texas was heading to the win, but Florida team began to play better, so the match got tight later on.

Didn't Chi rout Traxler at EB?  A rather different story yesterday. Because Karina upgraded her attacking game lol.

VERY high level imo. Not much rallies, because both almost played 1st strike tennis. Like Claire Liu(Liu is imo different than Bellis; inherently more aggressive, hence also produces vastly more errors haha, as I repeatedly say).
Karina dumped a lot, possibly again, due to size. Other than that, not that much of a difference imo.  Karina's in and out drives were SO good..her serve deserted her at times, but generally thought she rather served well. Or that Chi bungled lots of serve returns, almost bashing haha.

Both just so impressed me this tournament..just became HOT HOT items on the recruiting market! Naturally complimented both. :)

Franco wasn't bad at all, was very aggressive so could take charge of lots of points. But Muller weathered it out, and again played patient and accurate tennis. Attacked well, too.

Shin again impressed me, hit SO well. Netted some bh slices though. Chloe's is so loud..haha. So between those two excellent hitters, the match went to the distance lol.  It finished way~~~ later during the Final match haha. Kudos to both, fighting their asses off!

NE vs MW

Missed the doubles

During the singles match Mid. Atlantic players came by, sporting hand printing all over themselves haha. And Kelly Chen literally jumped into Elene Tsokilauri!

Dunleavy was rooting for her teammates, nice to see.

Hamlin vs Daavettila

Ellyse's dtl was good. Her shots were very potent, so could boss Sara around. Very strong bhs too. But wasn't winning the LONG rallies, not infrequently ending in her errors. As I said, Sara is NOT losing the rallies lol.

Rogers vs Minor

R was totally fired up lol. Yelled incessantly after winning points haha, so Minor later followed her example! Even the crows were qwarking, lol! But later maybe both got exhausted yelling all the time, fell silent haha. Couldn't really watch much though, but thought R played well.

Lexi vs Goodman

Lexi again, terrible form haha.

Davis vs Jones

So, decided to have a look on both, since I haven't watched them that much.  Davis I don't think she played the Spring tournaments, and Jones I haven't seen her much generally.

Jones REALLY impressed me with her defensive abilities lol. Terrific gets; maybe also size matters, such as her reach?  Drive form was also pretty disciplined methink, could attack and generally made few errors.  Unlike Davis, that is haha.  Emma does hit well, flatly, but maybe trying to overwhelme Alyvia, made a tad too many drive errors. Alyvia was a veritable wall....and served well too, altough Emma once made an outright service return winner lol.

Anyway, Alyvia also sliced well, liked to slice on her fh side, and generally returned deep. Volleyed very well, too. Seems pretty focused, and seems to have nice reflex as well. Should watch her matches more at SD.

Alyvia is like Meible, quite thin. Imagine if both can add more 'flesh' and hence more power to their shots..

Kowalski vs Dewire

Just watched a bit, Meg was a bit better. She's basically an offensive player. Dewire joined Schrage and another player(forgot who, should consult the notes lol), as a Vampires clan, grabbing the towel with her teeth during changeover haha.

6 McCann vs Linden

Allison McCann's results this tournament is quite stellar. Just very good fundamental despite her petite size. And Linden managed to make the match quite competitive, I see.

So. Cal vs Southern

Gabby Andrews was rooting for her home team throughout the match with friends haha.

And Summer Dvorak came with her mom(and dad?)! Naturally greeted them and complimented on Summer's game of course :)  Later they were getting lectured by coach MacDonald, haha.  I really should congratulate him later at SD lol.

Is this a trend? Drivers targetted the opponent at net, forcing errors. Verra nice tactic, if I say so.

Thought KM was again dominating, but somehow So. Cal caught up, for example with Ena's usual aggressive poachings.

Totally forgot this but Ena/Kelly decided to imitate the Bryan Bro's famous belly-thumping ceremony lol. After MP did it again..failed miserably lol! Hilarious :)

One word; Car Branstine. Didn't lose a single match this tournament, be it singles or doubles. As usual, hit with such ease and grace, either drive or volleys. Especially her volleys really shined yesterday, defended well at net too, great racket manipulation and reflex. This So. Cal team generally defended very well, is my impression.
Andie's serve was unstable yesterday, and Hart and Jones did commit some errors(Makenna did make some nice passing shots at times). But overall Car played just too well lol.

The decider, because dbls #1 finished last.  Meredith/Yang is a good team so Branstine/Lahey did very well to clinch the win.  I think both Constance and Ashley served well.

Chen vs McCarthy

Thought this match might be long because both hits rather leisurely lol. Evenly matched, and the battle between out of form players maybe haha.  Thought KM hit rather too conservatively; she got attacked after some rallies. She could produce pace, especially her whipping fh was monstrous. Once made a fast-tempo overhead with ease, just like Car Branstine.

Southern had a good fortune with Kaitlyn playing for them every year. Now that she heads to Duke, wonder who'll succeed her at #1, since Andie also graduates(but Kaitlyn is actually from the class of 2016, so she might play one more year? Dunno, we'll see).

Shibahara vs Daniel

Tried to watch a lot, since Andie isn't playing the National. Both were aggressive, so the match was tight all the way. Maybe the difference was serve; Andie's was unstable, and Ena's was more reliable, is my impression. But still the 2nd set was a break-fest methink lol.
One thing I noticed, Ena no longer comes into the baseline to receive 2nd serve. Because Andie's 2nd serve was strong? Dunno.

Branstine vs Kenya Jones

Car can hit overhead fast; on the rise, like half a tempo early. That shot really impressed me(height helps too, haha). Again, as with her game itself, hit with such ease.  Of course couldn't handle some of Kenya's power shots(since she's still quite young), but served so well, and drove well too. Faced many perils but generally pulled herself out this tournament, maybe due to her strong serving(haven't really watched her that much this tournament, since I've seen her play at the Sectional, Nicole too for that matter. These National tournaments, as I said, I naturally focus on the 'guests' lol).

Branstine vs Makenna Jones

I don't think Constance played that bad, though I couldn't really watch much.

Mossmer vs Meredith

Lol, I thought this matchup might happen. Because Nicole actually played Marycaroline's sister Madeline at EB lol. So cruel, beating both sisters haha. MM of course could produce winners, but couldn't really pierce Nicole's wall-like defense, thereby committing errors at the end of the rallies.  More patience is needed :)   Anyway Nicole's defense is just marvelous, dunno how she can return all those attacks lol. Easily one of the best defenders in her class, and it's not like she can't attack either, so..

So. Cal youngsters could say to have clinched the win, Car and Nicole. That of course bodes very well for this team in the future, but that's not surprising. Claire Liu didn't even play, and there are other very good young players such as Taylor Johnson, so expect them to continue to have strong showing.

Eastern vs Mid. Altantic

Missed the doubles, too bad.

Battaglia vs Gizdova

Was impressed with Nadia's game, hit well, used angles, so took control of lots of points. But Mad as usual moved and hit well, so the match was tight all the way. Mad in fact got back from 2-5 in the 3rd set lol, forced a TB. But at TB methinks her fh deserted her, made some errors. Nadia played smart methink, didn't rush to the net prematurely, since Mad is a terrific passer. Just patiently moved Mad around with potent groundstrokes. MP was her drop shot.

Lim vs Corse

Rachel decided to hit conservatively this time haha. And worked perfectly. Cameron hit with all her might but Rachel generally had no problem countering those. But as the score suggests, Cameron is a good player, so the match was tight. Too bad I couldn't watch more, had to concentrate on So. Cal vs Southern of course.

Schrage vs Subhash

Stephanie is that rara avis, sporting a Nadal cap; very rare indeed haha, and it's even more improbable since she's aggression itself, rather unlike Nadal's style lol.  So the match was very intense, since both are terrific hitters. Natasha's bh was pretty strong as well.
