USC's semifinal loss to UCLA, 2012

Score from USC

2012 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (Dan Magill Tennis Complex - Athens, Ga.)
Semifinals - May 21
[1] UCLA 4, [5] USC 3

DOUBLES
(1) #6 Anderson/Morton (UCLA) def. #3 Christian/Santamaria (USC) - 8-3

KK/Sab' s only loss next season to Ahn/Gibbs is the more memorable, but this rivals in importance. And got routed.

(2). #9 Dolehide/Montez (UCLA) def. #49 Pulido/Scandalis (USC) - 8-4
(3) #75 Lao/Ramos (USC) vs. Jones/Seguso (UCLA) - 6-5 susp.
UCLA wins doubles point.
Order of finish: 1, 2

SINGLES
(1) #4 Robin Anderson (UCLA) def. #14 Zoe Scandalis (USC) -- 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2
(2) #98 McCall Jones (UCLA) def. #19 Danielle Lao (USC) - 6-4, 2-6, 6-2*
(3) #26 Sabrina Santamaria (USC) def. #73 Pamela Montez (UCLA) - 7-5, 2-6, 6-4

(4) #124 Skylar Morton (UCLA) def. #89 Kaitlyn Christian (USC) - 6-4, 7-5

Sure the biggest upset was of course Jones beating Lao, which should not have happened: it's like Burdette beating Will, surreal. KK lost both though.

(5) Gabriella DeSimone (USC) def. #119 Chanelle Van Nguyen (UCLA) - 0-6, 6-2, 6-4
(6) Valeria Pulido (USC) def. Carling Seguso (UCLA) - 7-5, 3-6, 6-1
Order of finish: 4, 5, 3, 6, 1, 2

SC freshmen didn't fare too well in their debut season, in their last sgls matches at the NCAA: Leimbach, Fink, Fansler, Niculescu, Ramos, Lao all lost. Sanchez, Pulido and KK DNF. Nelson won.
I guess you can't really blame Zoe losing to Robin here. #1 is always tough, and obviously Robin was the better player.

So, after Cal.'s NTI win. SC lags far behind its Pac 12 rivals, in BIG stages like NTI and NCAA, where a Star is born(like Sharma last season), and shines.

I'm not going to mention Stanford and UCLA' s achievement here lol. Both team boast most win and most finalist appearance, respectively methinks.
Cal. reached 4 finals, and won 1. Actually Cal. performed really well at NTI during the last 3 years. 2 semis, then a win. Pac 12 really dominated, the Big 4. Stanford won NCAA 2013, USC advanced to 3 semifinals, and UCLA obviously was the best team the last two seasons.

Anyway, USC hasn't been to the final at all. Semifinals from 1986 or something, 6 times?  Class of 2011 was really a watershed class for them, the team advancing to 3 semis. They didn't finish too well though. Hope the class of 2014, this year's sophomores, end their career a lil' bit better lol. In 2017 of course. I'm pretty pessimistic about this year and the next(I said 'Blue Period' lol, UF, UNC..recruited a lot better)

SC is still waiting for the heroine(s) to regain their former glory..obviously recruiting for the class of 2018 and 2019 will be important(replace the classes of 2014 and 2015, 3 players each).
