2017 ISC 3/20 G18 singles recap

Capless umpire DM rather resembles Senator Palpatine...!

Surprise 'staff' was former Gator Alex Cercone! Mentioned about that end of winning streak on Ring Complex and she also lamented about it lol.

Who was talking with Hance's mom in the morning, coach Niilson! Coach Sell and Sampras-Webster were also present, and later coach Thibodeau came.

Just could not find an opportune moment to chat with Kelly, she was popular lol, first Liu was with her then Duong, etc.  She's also playing EB so I'll have ample time to elicit some juicy recruiting info from her..I hope!  Or should I just ask Colette....?????!!!!

Was that Maureen Diaz? Was chatting with Nicole's mom.

Sisters were practicing together, Ryan and Phoebe, and on the next court Liu was practicing.

Colette with a new outfit???!! Black sleeve something and the bag also seems different??!

Umpire MB is 'hale' now, completely recovered from her injury!

Again disregarding those copious notes, can't bother, too tired.

1st Round
Taylor JOHNSON (USA) [1] 3-6 6-1 6-3 Victoria HU (USA)

Didn't really watch because later Colette was concentrating on it. Not sure I saw Hu much before. She's tall and has plenty of power.
Dunno why SJ was relentlessly charging the net. Was it because Hu couldn't cope or that SJ had to, not winning the drive battle? If it was the latter case.....???!!

Kelly CHEN (USA) 6-4 6-4 Margaryta BILOKIN (UKR)

B was not bad at all. Could attack, and return properly. The points were quite long.

Georgia DRUMMY (IRL) 1-6 6-2 6-3 Abigail FORBES (USA)

Surprise? Coach Niilson watched this.

Ann LI (USA) [13] 6-1 6-1 Nikki REDELIJK (USA)

Just glimpsed a bit, Li too good.

Dominique SCHAEFER (PER) [12] 6-4 6-1 Jimena RODRIGUEZ-BENITO (USA)

Same here, just watched a bit, what with the limited view at court 14.

Marlee ZEIN (USA) 6-4 5-7 6-1 Jessie Jiaxin GONG (CAN)

Evenly matched. Nice handshake.

Hailey BAPTISTE (USA) [7] 6-1 6-3 Peyton STEARNS (USA)

Youngsters performed well, including Peyton. Those gorgeous fh drives. How many service return winners did she make off it. But probably too aggressive; so eventually B managed to hold. Variety wasn't bad either. Coach Sampras-Webster watched this.

Emiliana ARANGO (COL) [3] 6-2 6-4 Imani GRAHAM (USA)

Spotted a Columbia flag on a jacket? somebody was wearing, earlier.
Just could watch the last moment. A wears a cap, backward, like Nadal or younger SJ.

Salma EWING (USA) 6-1 7-6(0) Chloe BECK (USA)

Battle of he equal. Chloe's service return was especially sharp. Hit with all her might, and those landed deep, almost painting the baseline. Variety, as usual top notch. Once made a difficult lob winner against E's good net approach.

Victoria EMMA (USA) [15] 7-5 6-2 Alexandra TUTECKY (CAN)

T was in fact quite good, E had trouble reacting to her attacks.

Elizabeth MANDLIK (USA) 6-4 6-2 Tiffany LAGARDE (CAN)

So this is Mandlik. Recognized her at the viewing area at court 17 before, since Colette has a nice pic of her on her earlier tournament lol. In fact impressed with both, both could attack sharply, and did not lack variety as well. M's net approach timing seems quite sharp.

Alexa NOEL (USA) 2-6 6-3 7-5 Natasha SUBHASH (USA) [5]

Hannah ZHAO (USA) 7-6(2) 7-6(2) Anhzelika ISAEVA (RUS) [8]

Was actually impressed with I, although I did see her a few times before. Offense and defense both very good.

Elysia BOLTON (USA) [9] 6-2 6-3 Mccartney KESSLER (USA)

K seemed more powerful now? Some of her drives were quite potent. B weathered those out, and her sharp attacks began to change the momentum. Couldn't watch much.

Amanda MEYER (USA) [14] 6-2 6-3 Ariana ARSENEAULT (CAN)

M really is an elite player. Moves well and hits really well, with consistency. As I said before, a great pick by Vandy.

Victoria FLORES (USA) 6-0 6-2 Shelly YALOZ (USA)

Gabriella PRICE (USA) 6-3 6-1 Charlotte CHAVATIPON (GUM)

Price has grown. Quite intense, almost seem to bash, but the balls aren't too flat. But her aggression was good enough I guess, just saw a couple of games at the start.

Ellie DOUGLAS (USA) [4] 6-1 6-4 Alana SMITH (USA)

Impressed by S; could inject pace quite effortlessly. Smooth hitting. Not an easy win by Ellie.

Caty MCNALLY (USA) [6] 6-2 6-1 Malkia MENGUENE (USA)

MM's net play is really good, naturally since she's a very good doubles player. Caty reacted to those well though, passing, etc.

Rhea VERMA (IND) 3-6 7-6(4) 6-1 Dalayna HEWITT (USA)

Was shocked to discover this.

Hikaru SATO (JPN) 7-5 6-1 Willa Bay BREUNICH (USA)

Sabina DADACIU (USA) 4-6 6-1 6-3 Sara TSUKAMOTO (USA)

Slice, strong bh..D really is not a bad player. Wonder Mandlik was watching this match.

Carson BRANSTINE (CAN) [2] 6-2 6-1 Jessi MULJAT (USA)

Reserved Car's match for later.

Now 4pm, should I go back to the venue.
