2017 ACC day 1

Forgot to add this:

Moi at the rental car counter:

"Can I drive to Alabama(to bird of course)?"

 Staff:

"As long as you bring the car back...!"

Hwy signs along Atlanta(85/75N) was very good: Big letters and easy to understand. Not the outskirts including Kennesaw Mt.

Birding not satisfactory: spotted Prothonotary warbler at RTC, Brown-headed Nuthatch at Ridge Ferry Park, Red headed Woodpecker at Berry college, Red bellied Woodpecker at Georgia Highland Paris lake, but those are the only notable species. Maybe I should participate on the Atlanta Audubon field trip on the morning of the 28th. Need to SEE those Vireos and Warblers. And it rains till 1pm tomorrow, major disaster for me lol(a day less of birding!!).

Surprise guest: I'm sure that was Mad Meredith lol, was with her sister methinks. Or not?

Moi, coach Wyshner and mom? of Wilcox or ECC were banished from (the shade) on the baseline of bank 2 courts by an 'ambassador', the inexplicable reason being that we 'disrupt' the players. That's a new one, even juniors don't mind. And there's bleachers on the same baseline side at bank 1 courts. Some even lean on the railings. Are players at bank 2 mentally weak or what lol.

So we had to stand or sit on the sidelines, and one can't really watch the furthest doubles match from that direction. They should've apportioned the courts so that sideline bleacher seats are 'between' two courts. But at each end, and it's a mere 6-game format. Disaster.

No parking fee, that's better than VU. $16 vs $45(3 day) lol.

None applauded the opponents, although some did gesture sorry.

I'm poking this on my Fire not typing, so can't really bother with the details.

Best player: Kylie Wilcox, who hits like a pro, and not devoid of variety either. Have I seen her before, not sure. She was a revelation to me.  ECC returned those sharp and strong drives very well, probably the marquee singles match of the day.

Another candidate is Mariana Humberg of Louisville. Luisa Stefani wasn't the only Brazilian genius lol. She instantly grabbed my attention in #1 doubles with her excellent bh slice, had to ask fellow Angeleno coach Roland who she was(now why did I ask him about ND, I thought WF were playing ND lol. I blame my lack of sleep!). The net duel between her and Knutson was intense. Against Shkudun at #3 singles, she was even more impressive. I thought nobody slices better than Alexa Noel lol. Or Chloe Beck. She was a super aggressive player: slicing. Normal drives could paint the sidelines. Maybe she could do her magic because S's drives couldn't bother her, but S also passed well: another marquee match of the day.

So the magic number 3 continues: as in SEC, marquee singles matches lol.

Score from BC:

Boston College 4, Virginia Tech 3
April 26, 2017 at Rome, Ga. Rome Tennis Center at Berry College

 Singles
No. 1 – No. 111 Francesca Fusinato (VT) def. Asiya Dair (BC) 6-3, 6-3

F was more solid. Dair was powerful enough but sank tons. And F served well.

No. 2 – No. 101 Natalie Novotna (VT) def. No. 110 Lexi Borr (BC) 6-2, 6-3

So that was Novotna. There was no staff to provide matchup info, at all, unlike SEC. Aside from free parking and nearer bathroom and drinking fountain lol, already less impressive than the SEC tournament..They did update scores like Ojai, manually on a separate board.
Beating Lexi, who is now blond -free haha, is no mean feat. Could say even fairly overpowered.

No. 3 – Kylie Wilcox (BC) def. Elena Cerezo-Codina (VT) 7-5, 6-4

No. 4 – Caroline Daxhelet (VT) def. Emily Safron (BC) 6-4, 6-2

Caro just the more powerful. By the way VT were louder, again proving my theory about that Southern temper..haha.

No. 5 – Jackie Urbinati (BC) def. Sansitha Nandakumar (VT) 6-2, 6-3

No. 6 – Elene Tsokilauri (BC) def. Nancy Ghanem (VT) 6-0, 6-4

Elene played singles. Not bad either, well she always had potential..

 Doubles
No. 1 – No. 69 Daxhelet/Fusinato (VT) def. Wilcox/Dasha Possokhova (BC) 6-3

Naturally concentrated on this marquee match a first: Daxhelet vs Darya. But thought Elene would only play doubles so went there, a mistake lol.

No. 2 – Borr/Urbinati (BC) def. Cerezo-Codina/Novotna (VT) 6-3

Lexi played well at net.

No. 3 – Dair/Tsokilauri (BC) def. Nandakumar/Luisa Uscocovich (VT) 6-1

 Order of finish: Doubles (3, 1, 2); Singles (2, 6, 5, 1, 4, 3)

This one took like 30 minutes to finish. Oklahoma state last season boasted they finished doubles in 20 minutes. How can this save college tennis I have no idea. Men's should finish even earlier, since their overheads are untouchable. Should I check it out? Maybe I'll have a peak of Wiersholm(her sister!) and Schneider lol.

Score from Louisville

 Louisville 4, Syracuse 2

The only Cards I knew were Mally and Suswam.

 Singles competition

 1. Aleksandra Mally (LOU) def. Miranda Ramirez (SU) 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (2-7)

R was quite powerful. But M returned well, and R did commit errors.

2. Gabriela Knutson (SU) def. Elle Stokes (LOU) 6-3, 6-2

K too powerful.

3. Mariana Humberg (LOU) vs. Anna Shkudun (SU) no result

Anna forced the 3rd. Really an excellent match.

4. Abbie Pahz (LOU) def. Maria Tritou (SU) 6-2, 6-2
5. Libi Mesh (SU) def. Tiffany Huber (LOU) 6-4, 6-3
6. Olivia Boesing (LOU) def. Dina Hegab (SU) 7-6, 6-4

 Doubles competition

1. Abbie Pahz/Mariana Humberg (LOU) def. Gabriela Knutson/Miranda Ramirez (SU) 7-5
2. Dina Hegab/Anna Shkudun (SU) def. Elle Stokes/Jessie Paul (LOU) 6-3 3. Aleksandra Mally/Ariana Rodriguez (LOU) def. Nicole Mitchell/Maria Tritou (SU) 6-1

I thought it was Suswam. She isn't even playing, wow.

Match Notes: Order of finish: Doubles (3,1); Singles (2,4,5,6,1)

I was actually impressed with Pittsburgh's top 3 singles. I knew Blakely could be good, but the other two, not sure I've seen them before. #4 also won the 1st against Jones. By the way why are these Midwest teams playing for ACC :p

Score from ND(neither teams provided order of finish)

No. 33 Notre Dame 4, Pitt 0
April 26, 2017 Rome Tennis Center Rome, Ga.

Nice to see those two again haha. We'll always remember that cold Winter Nat! RIP, now it moved to Florida.

Singles
 1. No. 87 Monica Robinson (ND) vs. Amber Washington (PITT) 4-6, 7-5, 0-0 unfinished

W was really powerful. Monica did well to force the 3rd. She's playing #1 while her rival(Monica won twice methinks, Sectional and Ojai?) Xepoleas was stuck at 6 then retired. Just..not fair lol.

2. Brooke Broda (ND) def. Audrey Ann Blakely (PITT) 6-1, 7-5

Good match, both hit well. Brooke was quite aggressive. And she's always solid, so..

 3. Allison Miller (ND) vs. Gabriela Rezende (PITT) 7-6, 5-1, unfinished

Both were exchanging winners. R is an another discovery. She's also a Brazilian!

4. Zoe Spence (ND) vs. Callie Frey (PITT) 4-6, 6-2, 0-0, unfinished

I think I saw Frey play juniors?

5. Mary Closs (ND) def. Clara Lucas (PITT) 6-2, 6-3

Why is Mary so thin..haha.

6. Rachel Chong (ND) def. Jovana Knezevic (PITT) 6-3, 6-4

Said hi to Bess of course. Bess not even starting. Of course will start next season. Should I ask her about Liz Stevens.

Doubles
1. Mary Closs / Monica Robinson (ND) def. Amber Washington / Callie Frey (PITT) 6-4
2. Brooke Broda / Allison Miller (ND) def. Audrey Ann Blakely / Clara Lucas (PITT) 6-3
3. Jane Fennelly / Zoe Spence (ND) vs. Knezevic / Gabriela Rezende (PITT) 5-5, unfinished

Had to concentrate on Louisville vs Syracuse doubles so only could watch the last portion.
