2017 National] G16 singles 8/7

Makarova's mom spotted as usual. BJK hideout; couch Kalbas looked into it.

64 Esther Lovato d. (33) Rhea Shrivastava 6-1; 6-1
64 Gracie Mulville d. (17) Eryn Cayetano 3-6; 6-2; 7-6(6)
64 Connie Ma d. Najah Dawson 6-2; 6-0
64 (17) Chidimma Okpara d. (33) Ali Despain 4-6; 7-5; 6-3

64 (8) Lauren Stein d. Elise Mills 6-2; 6-1

Stein had to play well, aggressively; because Mills was quite a powerful hitter. When Mills had initiative, she could finish points with her powerful drives. In the end Stein was too good though, also mixing it up well, as usual. Mills once applauded Stein's good play.

64 (33) Jaedan Brown d. (17) MariaCecilia Aguiar 6-2; 6-3
64 (11) Julia Andreach d. (33) Kayla Wilkins 6-4; 6-0
64 (17) Britt Pursell d. Lindsay Hung 3-6; 6-4; 6-2

64 (3) Emma Navarro d. (33) Lea Ma 2-6; 6-1; 6-3

Watched some. Ma probably was better but Navarro passed well.

64 Jacque Dunyon d. (17) Kiana Graham 6-4; 6-2
64 (15) Karina Miller d. (33) Kelsey Mize 6-0; 7-5
64 (17) Kylie Collins d. (33) Elizabeth Goldsmith 4-6; 6-3; 6-4

64 (5) Carly Briggs d. Lauren Ko 2-6; 6-4; 6-4

Can't really form a coherent impression. Could guess B was winning, listening her yell haha. Ko hit well methinks. Also felt B's fh were quite good, rather leaning into it.

64 Katherine Duong d. (17) Zoe Howard 6-2; 1-6; 6-2
64 (9) Angelica Blake d. (33) Marcella Cruz 6-0; 6-1
64 India Houghton d. anna Roggenburk 6-2; 5-7; 6-2
64 (17) Maryam Ahmad d. (33) Vivian Cheng 6-4; 6-1

64 (16) Ava Hrastar d. Kacie Harvey Wo (inj)

I was wondering why Hrastar was around at Barnes. I thought this might be a good match.

64 (33) Nikita Vishwase d. (17) Audrey Boch-Collins 1-6; 6-3; 6-3

Quite an upset.

64 (33) Maggie Cubitt d. Callie Billman 6-3; 6-0

Sooooo impressed with those two. They're class of 2019. Massive talents, imo. Both tall, can generate pace with ease, also moved quite well for their size. They just hit so well! B had quite a variety, as well. Probably C was bit more solid. This Cubitt teamed up with Hrastar? Might go far.. Her serve seemed a bit unstable at times.

64 (33) Stephanie Nguyen d. (17) Emma Jackson 6-1; 4-6; 6-2
64 (33) Katrina Scott d. (13) Addison Guevara 6-2; 4-6; 6-4

Two big upsets.

64 (17) Anessa Lee d. (33) Chelsea Williams 6-0; 6-3
64 (4) Sedona Gallagher d. (33) Muskan Mahajan 6-2; 6-4
64 (17) Michelle Sorokko d. Avery Durham 7-6; 6-3
64 (14) Nikki Redelijk d. Rachel Arbitman 6-4; 6-1
64 (17) Jenna DeFalco d. Demi Snyder 6-3; 6-1

64 (33) Carmen Corley d. (6) Briana Crowley 4-2

As I feared, Corley too powerful. Crowley did manage to prolong rallies, but in the end, was rather overpowered.

64 (17) Alexandra Yepifanova d. (33) Ellie Coleman 6-3; 7-5

Good match. Coleman was very aggressive, but Y despite her size moved and returned quite well. Served well, and also had nice variety.

64 (12) Reilly Tran d. (33) Rosie Garcia Gross 4-6; 6-3; 6-3
64 (33) Yolanda Lin d. Catherine Broerman 6-2; 6-3

R1 elizabeth stevens d. (33) Tara Malik 6-3; 6-2

Both are such good hitters.

R2 Courtney Swift d. Avery Aude 7-6(5); 6-1

Swift too good.

 R2 Jillian Taggart d. Mary Grace Armistead 6-4; 7-5

That wasn't an easy win, since Armistead was quite aggressive; moved well. Taggart as usual, returned well, composed, etc.
