2017 National] G18 doubles 8/10

16 (2) Graver/Joyce d. (17) Brylin/Pesavento 6-2; 6-4

Action of the day; Graver hit Joyce, was that intentional or what lol. Terrific match, loved every moment of it. B/P were actually pretty outstanding. P again really shined at net, and B's effortless low drives and volleys should've worked against many other teams; but G/J in best condition today. J was super impressive at net, whether defending or attacking, and passed with her usual knifing drives. G was also super aggressive poaching, etc. Maybe they had more firepower, dunno. But there were plenty of intense net duels so it was quite delightful to watch.

16 (6) Baptiste/Douglas d. (15) Cerdan/Lou 6-1; 6-2

16 Hewitt/Stearns d. Anzo/Rabinowitz 5-7; 6-2; 10-6

Watched from the later 1st till the start of 2nd, then match TB. This match derailed my other schedule lol, but I wanted to watch R again anyway. A/R were so good, no kidding. A hit so well, methinks she improved? No wonder she had a tight match Mateas. Especially targeted the opponent at net, usually Hewitt, to good effect, drawing FEs.
R, what can I say. No problem returning those drive bombs. Excellent court vision and volley finishes, making numerous volley winners lol. That was some sight.

H/S definitely could've lost, self destructing like during Fed Cup lol, but they played really well to clinch the match. Both were really good, and very aggressive; they had to be, because A/R just weren't giving easy points. Stearns's knifing drives and good net plays bore fruit, and Hewitt again made many huge plays at critical moments. The reason why tall player has advantage in doubles; size really mattered methinks.
UNC, UVA, etc. watched this.

16 (7) Bolton/Jones d. Ferrari/Levine 6-3; 6-1

F/L were charging the net, was that how they beat the future Dores. B was not really...impressive when I glimpsed lol, it was usually J coping well against those approaches, passing and lobbing well haha. Had to abandon this because I checked the score of the above match via binocular.

16 (8) Allen/Corley d. (9) Duong/Forbes 7-5; 7-5

16 (4) Osuigwe/mcnally d. (17) Kessler/Zein 6-0; 6-4

Too bad couldn't watch much, likewise had to abandon this for H/S vs A/R. O/M cruised in the first, but the 2nd set was getting interesting when I left.

16 (5) Johnson/Liu d. (17) Kerr/Sung 6-1; 6-3

Watched at times, K/S weren't bad, but not quite good as Goldsmith/Cusano. Still, at times pretty competitive.

16 (1) Li/Subhash d. (10) Kung/Shin 6-3; 7-5

Too bad I missed this but this was played right next to Baptiste match.
