2017 National] G16 doubles 8/8

Coach Pollard's hair seems shorter.

Iron rule; once doubles starts, not going to watch singles. Because doubles finish fast. And you know, somebody should carte about doubles, eh? So abandoned watching G18 MD singles once doubles got started, and had to choose; location as usual mattered, also avoiding you know who lol.

32 (2) Despain/Guevara d. Neyestani/Stelse 6-2; 6-1

32 (13) Crawley/Stein d. (17) Coleman/Jackson 6-1; 6-1

Stein too good. Jackson passed sharply, Coleman's net defense was very good, even did a leg-thru. Stein's defense was outstanding. Also made some difficult overheads. Crawley once made a perfect sharp angled bh passing shot on the run. Wanted to watch more but had to watch the following match;

32 Brown/Miller d. (7) Cubitt/Hrastar 6-2; 6-2
Came and B/M were leading 1-0 in the 2nd set. Finished rather fast.
Super impressed with Brown. Literally dominated the net, with exquisite touch. I mean she was even more impressive in doubles than singles lol. Hrastar's lobs were weak so got pounced, but she later was uber aggressive trying to poach; had to, since they were losing. Not a bad execution either. Cubitt again had trouble serving, and made some bh drive errors after tense rallies.
I guess they all  advanced tomorrow lol(C/H won singles today), so it's all good.

32 (9) Marsh/Navarro d. (17) Andersen/stevens 6-2; 6-0

32 (3) Corley/Pielet d. (17) Taggart/Yelamanchili 6-3; 6-0

Only could watch the start of the match. C/P too good. P's super aggressive poaching reminds me of KK(who's here this tournament). No trouble making high ones.

32 (11) Broerman/Mills d. (17) Lau/Wang 7-5; 6-4

Could watch a bit after Cubitt/Hrastar lost(next to that match).
Quality match, L/W were quite aggressive and made plenty of winners. B again impressed me with her all around fine play. Had to leave a bit later to watch other matches.

32 (5) Collins/Yaloz d. Cheng/Harvey 6-3; 6-2

Collins too good, glimpsed a bit while watching Coleman/Jackson match.

32 (14) Andreach/Garcia Gross d. (17) Hung/Swift 6-3; 6-3

Last two matches were HQ. All excellent here, including at net. Was that Hung, the darker one? Had really soft touch. Swift(white visor)? as usual drove exquisitely. Also volleyed quite well.

32 Kane/Mathews d. (12) Okpara/Wu 6-4; 6-3

Couldn't watch this at court 3 to my regret, but wow.

32 Ahmad/Arbitman d. Kintiroglou/Ratliff 6-4; 7-6(2)

32 (15) Goldsmith/Wagner d. Kuckelman/Kuckelman 7-5; 7-6(5)

Last match standing, by the time it was cold and dark.
G/W were actually leading 5-2 in the 2nd when I came by to watch A/G vs H/S lol. After that match ended, it got tied(from then on could concentrate).
As I said, another HQ match. K sisters were actually impressively good. They hit really well, had no problem rallying with Goldsmith, that says something(I see that they won consolation singles matches today, against good opponents). Wagner really shined here, defending the net excellently(never gives up!), also attacking aggressively(she does tend to hog the spotlight..haha. also made some errors). The sisters had some trouble handling high balls methinks.

32 (4) Kourkina/Sorokko d. (17) Akli/Howard 6-2; 6-0

Only could watch at first. A/H's firepower seemed impressive, yet...I guess they floundered eventually against K/S's usual rock-like defense(when I watched S was practically touching all the balls lol, lobbing excellently as usual. Once attacked sharply after that pattern). When I glimpsed from far away, A was making errors.

32 (17) Mills/Ross d. (16) Cayetano/Duncan 7-6(5); 7-5

Only could watch a bit, you know who came so had to leave of course. Looked quite even, and that says a lot about this M/R team(C/D are excellent doubles players). M poached quite well.

32 (6) Boch-Collins/Pursell d. (17) Houghton/Wotten 3-6; 6-4; 10-7

Just could watch a weeny bit. My horrible soccer skill was exposed by umpire Martinez. I mean I was quite good in my 'prime'

32 (10) Chan/Gallagher d. (17) Hayer/Huang 6-3; 6-0

Started first so pretty much stayed till the end, of course to watch Hayer. At first Hayer vs Gallagher ace battle was tense, but eventually G got the upper hand. Just more solid. Hayer's condition didn't seem too good, made some errors. Chan once applauded.

32 (17) Blake/Redelijk d. Ko/Lee 6-3; 6-4

K/L were actually quite good, just watched a bit(next to M/R vs C/D match).
